Washington and Copenhagen have announced a new agreement concerning security arrangements in Greenland, bringing an end to a diplomatic rift that emerged after President Donald Trump threatened to acquire the semi-autonomous territory.
While the specific terms of the pact are not yet fully detailed, it appears the arrangement allows Denmark to retain its sovereignty over the island. In exchange, the United States will be granted the ability to establish a substantial military presence there.
Under the deal, the US will also hold the authority to prohibit rival nations from constructing military bases on Greenland. The details were reported by Charlotte Hughes.
