Police have taken control of the Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) headquarters following an attempt by a coalition of club presidents to remove FDF president Souleiman Waberi, who also serves on the FIFA Council. The confrontation reached its peak on Monday as the federation was hosting an extraordinary general assembly convened specifically to vote out Waberi and his executive committee.
According to the FDF, the initial police presence began on Sunday evening at approximately 5:30 p.m. when officers occupied the national technical center. The federation reported that the officers did not provide any administrative documents or a court order to justify their entry.
By Monday, a significantly larger police force had arrived and explicitly ordered Waberi, executive committee members, staff, and other federation affiliates to evacuate the premises. The incident marks a dramatic escalation in weeks of mounting opposition directed at Waberi’s leadership.
