Violence erupted within the Djibouti football federation (FDF) on Monday as law enforcement officers took control of the organization’s headquarters, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing power struggle against president Souleiman Waberi.
The incident followed a call by a coalition of club presidents for an extraordinary general assembly, with the explicit goal of removing Waberi, who serves as a member of the FIFA council, along with his entire executive committee.
According to the FDF, the situation began developing late Sunday when police first entered the national technical center at approximately 5:30 pm. The federation reported that officers failed to present any administrative documents or court orders authorizing the entry.
By Monday, the operation intensified with a significantly larger contingent of officers ordering Waberi, executive committee members, staff, and other federation officials to vacate the premises.
Waberi has been under mounting pressure from opposition groups for several weeks, leading to this dramatic climax in the dispute over the leadership of Djiboutian football.
