A federal watchdog released a harsh report on Thursday accusing former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer of presiding over a “toxic, intimidating and humiliating” work environment during her tenure at the Department of Labor.
The investigation, conducted by the Labor Department’s Office of Inspector General, highlighted that Chavez-DeRemer, who stepped down in April, reportedly consumed alcohol during work hours. The report also noted failures regarding the proper disclosure of costly gifts she had received.
This is absolutely disgraceful. Expecting officials to hold it together during the workday shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Wait, alcohol consumption and unreported gifts? That’s a lot of red flags for one person. How did oversight fail so badly?
I assumed the resignation was voluntary, but this report paints a much uglier picture of the actual reasons behind it.
