Danny Nozell, the longtime manager for Dolly Parton’s company She’s Alive, LLC (SAL), has petitioned a Tennessee court for a restraining order against Bryan Seaver, the superstar’s nephew and recently dismissed head of security. The legal filing alleges that Seaver has waged a campaign of coercion and violent threats against Parton’s business associates, creating an environment of fear so severe that staff members now require personal protection.
Seaver, who operates Squadron Augmented Protection Services, LLC (SAPS), was terminated on September 15, roughly three weeks after Parton’s death on August 25. He had gained public attention shortly after her passing by announcing her death in an Instagram video. However, court documents filed late Tuesday present a starkly different image of Seaver, characterizing him as aggressive and unstable rather than reverent.
According to the filings, Seaver referred to himself as a “killer” and an “international arms dealer,” threatening to dismantle Parton’s business empire, including Dollywood, if he did not receive adequate compensation. The paperwork details numerous text messages in which Seaver vowed to “destroy the entire brand” and harass every entity involved in operating Dollywood.
“In writing, he vowed to ‘destroy the entire brand,’ threatened to ‘ratfuck every [business party] entity’ that helps operate Dollywood and called himself ‘literally an international arms dealer and mercenary,’” the filing states. It further notes that Seaver told Parton’s entertainment attorney, “I’m not an entertainment person. I’m a killer,” and threatened to launch a podcast dedicated to damaging Parton’s brand partnerships unless he was paid.
Impact on Staff and Legal Counsel
The restrictive order request claims that Seaver’s intimidation tactics have already caused significant operational disruption. Parton’s trusts and estates attorney withdrew from the case following Seaver’s targeting, and several SAL employees have resigned. Others have stopped reporting to the office due to fear of Seaver and his associates, who are alleged to possess military-grade weaponry.
“SAL personnel have resigned; others no longer report to the office because they fear Mr. Seaver and his armed associates. SAL and its related vendors have been forced to retain private security for its personnel — including at their homes,” the document reads. “Ordinary operations have given way to an atmosphere of fear.”
Seaver’s Response
Seaver did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment. However, he issued a statement to TMZ, which first reported on the restraining order. He acknowledged his background but denied that his communications constituted threats.
“I am a career soldier and military contractor and do conduct arms deals for foreign governments. I am a security professional and I am a killer. However, nothing in this lawsuit were threats and most of the comments I stand by,” Seaver said. He characterized the texts as private conversations between friends grieving together, stating, “I was talking frankly in a private way with Danny who I thought was my friend… A lot of these messages are two guys having rage talk and crying on the phone together while we were grieving.”
Alleged Threats Detail Armed Background
The legal documents highlight Seaver’s claims of a paramilitary past. In one alleged text message, Seaver wrote, “I’m not an entertainment person. I’m a killer. I sold 27 million $ worth of ammunition and arms to the Haitian Police on day Dolly died. Entertainment is not my game. I have spent my career breaking things and spying on African and Arab leaders. And protecting Dolly.”
Another message read, “All I do is warfare . . . Everyone needs to be worried about what I might do . . . I am vengeance for my people for the next 50 years… But I’m going to spend the next times I have on earth ratfucking anyone that has ever betrayed my family.”
Legal Strategy and Timeline
Nozell’s firm argues that Seaver exploited his two decades of access to Parton’s enterprise to build a “personal militia” and target key figures in her business. The filing describes a “deliberate progression” from threats against business partners to boasts about arms dealing, followed by direct intimidation of legal counsel.
SAL is seeking immediate relief pending a full hearing, arguing that every day without a restraining order allows Seaver another opportunity to drive away essential partners and employees. The estate’s lawyers contend that the threats are escalating and that the safety crisis is irreparable.
Seaver is the son of Dolly Parton’s sister, Cassie Parton. While the late country icon’s multi-million dollar estate is expected to be a source of family disputes, the speed and intensity of this conflict have surprised observers.
Despite the turmoil, Parton’s cultural footprint continues to expand. Her long-planned museum in Nashville is scheduled to open in early October, accompanied by a soft launch of an adjacent hotel. Additionally, a stage musical dramatizing her life story, which she oversaw, is set to premiere on Broadway later this year.
