Speaking on the Senate floor, Wicker stated that if the White House had sought his counsel, he would have advised against extending an invitation to Xi Jinping for meetings in the nation’s capital, suggesting the gesture was unwise under current circumstances.
It’s surprising to hear such open criticism from a fellow Republican. This could definitely add tension to the diplomatic meetings in D.C.
