Rep. Tom Tiffany Escapes Minor Injuries After Emergency Water Landing in Wisconsin

U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin was released from a local hospital on Saturday evening following an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. as the aircraft approached the Wausau Downtown Airport.

Tiffany, who is currently campaigning for the Wisconsin governorship, took to social media to describe the harrowing experience. He stated that the plane lost power while returning from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner.

“While returning home from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner tonight, the plane I was traveling in lost power as we approached the Wausau Downtown Airport. The pilot made an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau,” Tiffany wrote.

After the aircraft touched down on the water, Tiffany and the pilot exited the sinking plane and swam to a shallower section of the lake. They remained there until emergency responders arrived by boat. Both men were transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. Tiffany revealed he sustained a wound above his right eye, but both individuals were released the same night.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed Sunday that it is investigating the cause of the engine failure. Tiffany expressed gratitude toward the Wausau Fire Department and first responders for their rapid assistance.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all of the first responders who came to our aid so quickly,” Tiffany said. “An experience like this reminds you just how precious life is.”
