Republican Representative Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin survived an emergency water landing on Saturday evening after the single-engine aircraft he was aboard experienced a power failure. Tiffany, who is also the state’s Republican nominee for governor, was traveling from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner in Onalaska when the incident occurred.
The plane, piloted by Leonard Boltz, made an emergency landing on Lake Wausau as it approached Wausau Downtown Airport. According to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, the aircraft began to submerge shortly after touching down.
Tiffany described the harrowing escape in a post on X, writing that he and Boltz exited the sinking plane and swam to a shallow area where they waited for rescue.
Imagine losing engine power right over a lake. Talk about a stressful way to end a campaign event.
I remember reading about this earlier. Did anyone else notice the pilot’s name was mentioned? Leonard Boltz.
Glad he made it out safely. That sounds absolutely terrifying, swimming from a sinking plane.
