While Trump has previously attempted to block Associated Press journalists from the Oval Office and Air Force One over their use of the name “Gulf of Mexico” instead of “Gulf of America,” that specific ban was struck down by a federal judge in April 2025. The ruling determined the restriction violated the First Amendment, and an appeal against that decision remains pending.
Legal experts anticipate that barring these outlets could invite fresh constitutional challenges regarding freedom of the press.
