Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) has taken down a piece of campaign merchandise that mimicked the branding of the popular nicotine pouch Zyn, following a request from the product’s parent company. In early September, the Democrat introduced a puck-shaped storage tin to her official campaign storefront, labeling it “GLUE-ZYN-KAMP” as a playful nod to her surname.
On Thursday, Gluesenkamp Perez announced that she had removed the item after Zyn’s parent company asked her to stop using the branding. The decision highlights the legal and commercial sensitivities surrounding the use of trademarked names and packaging designs in political campaigns.
Honestly, ‘Glue-zyn-kamp’ is a terrible pun. Good riddance.
Removed already? That was fast. I guess legal threats work quicker than voter persuasion these days.
Does this mean she’s now a health advocate, or just respecting trademark law? Hard to tell.
Classic corporate bullying. They can’t have politicians making fun of their product, apparently.
I wonder if the rep actually likes nicotine or just found the pun funny enough to risk it.
