Laptop costs have surged over the past six months, driven by memory shortages that even prompted Apple to increase prices in June. This market shift makes the discounts available during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days particularly significant for consumers.
Wired gear editor Luke Larsen has identified several of his top-tested laptops among the current sales, noting that some are at their lowest prices in months. The roundup covers options for various budgets, ranging from premium Apple devices to affordable Windows machines.
Among the highlighted deals is the MacBook Air with the M5 chip (2026 model). Originally priced at $1,299, the laptop is available for $1,099 on Amazon, marking a 15 percent discount. Walmart is offering a slightly different price point at $1,254. The article was updated on October 7 at 5:21 am ET to include these findings as well as deals on compatible accessories.
For those looking for broader shopping guidance, the discounts are part of a larger collection of Prime Day offers curated by the publication’s editors.
Interesting that Apple raised prices just before this. Is the M5 actually worth the upgrade over the M4, or just marketing?
I was about to buy one full price. Glad I waited for Prime Day! $200 off is huge right now.
