Nintendo Announces Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct for September 8th

Nintendo has officially announced that it will air a special Direct presentation on September 8th to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Scheduled to begin at 10 AM ET, the roughly 30-minute broadcast marks the first of two upcoming news events dedicated to the series.

While Nintendo’s description of the showcase as a “variety of information related to The Legend of Zelda” is deliberately broad, industry expectations are high. The event is anticipated to reveal significant updates regarding the highly anticipated remake of Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, which currently lacks a confirmed release date. Additionally, viewers can expect further details on the live-action Zelda movie, which is slated for theatrical release in 2027.

Given the extended runtime of the broadcast, surprises are likely. Speculation remains rampant that Nintendo may offer a teaser for the next mainline entry in the Zelda series. The company has also noted that two Direct events are scheduled for next week, though only the first has been fully detailed so far.

  1. A live-action Zelda movie from Nintendo? I’m terrified, yet somehow unable to look away. Here we go again.
