The highly anticipated Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is scheduled for release on November 5. The date was confirmed during a recent Zelda-themed Nintendo Direct presentation, which also coincided with the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Nintendo initially revealed that a new version of the classic title was in development back in June, but withheld significant details regarding gameplay mechanics or potential changes to the original 1998 N64 release. Following months of speculation, the latest reveal indicates that the project will remain faithful to the source material rather than reimagining it in the open-world style seen in Breath of the Wild.
Players can expect the iconic dungeons and quest structure to remain intact, but enhanced with a modern visual overhaul, increased environmental detail, and updated controls such as proper camera management and a dedicated jump button. Additionally, the remake will introduce full voice acting throughout the adventure.
Gameplay footage showcased several key locations, including Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field, and Hyrule Castle Town. The presentation also confirmed the inclusion of Epona, Link’s horse, which players can ride during the game’s adult timeline sequence.
Alongside the software announcement, Nintendo debuted a special Legend of Zelda-themed Switch 2 console. The limited-edition hardware features custom artwork on the Joy-Con controllers, the dock, and the console body itself.
This anniversary Direct was one of two first-party broadcasts scheduled for the week. A general Nintendo Direct is set to air tomorrow at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, where further major announcements are expected.
