New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani received his federal security clearance on Wednesday, nearly nine months after he assumed the mayoral office.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference, Mamdani confirmed the status of his credentials. “I have my security clearance now,” he stated.
The approval permits the mayor to review classified documents, a capability he previously lacked. A representative for Mamdani noted that prior to receiving the clearance, Mamdani was restricted from accessing certain federal information.
Finally, he can actually see the classified briefings. NYC deserves leaders with full access to federal intelligence.
Nine months? That’s an absurd delay for a sitting mayor. I hope the process is faster next time.
