Irish boxer Thomas Carty falls through ropes for bizarre no-contest draw against David Allen

A scheduled heavyweight bout between David Allen and Thomas Carty at Croke Park was called off as a no contest after an unusual incident in the first round. The fight, which served as support for Katie Taylor’s final professional bout, concluded just 82 seconds into the contest.

Allen, a 34-year-old fighter from Doncaster, connected with a right hand to the back of Carty’s head, causing the Dublin southpaw to tumble over the ropes and land on the floor outside the ring. Carty appeared to be injured upon impact and received medical attention, including oxygen, before walking back to the changing room, prompting officials to abandon the contest.

The bizarre ending left Allen visibly confused, while the 80,000 strong crowd responded with boos as replays played on the stadium screens. Allen described the incident as one of the most strange occurrences he had ever witnessed in his career.

Carty, who was aiming for the biggest victory of his 12-fight professional career, did not speak to the media following the event, nor did Allen immediately address reporters after the strange conclusion.
