iRobot, the pioneer of robot vacuums, introduced a novel concept device at the IFA technology exhibition in Berlin on Tuesday. Dubbed the Roomba Duo, the system integrates two distinct cleaning units into a single autonomous solution.
The primary unit functions as a robust floor washer, handling sweeping and mopping across expansive areas. Accompanying it is a slimmer, secondary robot that can mechanically lower itself to navigate confined zones that the larger unit cannot reach, such as deep under furniture or within corners.
The main unit also serves as an autonomous mobile dock, equipped with onboard reservoirs for both clean and dirty water, as well as a dust bag. Utilizing lidar and camera-based navigation, the system maps residential layouts, maneuvers around obstacles, and identifies dirt accumulation.
