Everyman Cinemas Rebounds With Record Box Office Sales and Profit Return

UK luxury cinema operator Everyman has reported a significant financial turnaround, with revenues jumping by nearly a quarter and pre-tax profits returning to positive territory in the first half of the year. The upturn was fueled by a surge in admissions and record-breaking box office sales, driven by major releases including The Devil Wears Prada sequel and a Michael Jackson music biopic.

For the six months ending July 2, revenue increased by 23.5% to £69.8 million, while admissions rose 20.5% year-on-year to reach 2.6 million. The company recorded a pre-tax profit of £1.9 million, a sharp reversal from the £3.4 million loss reported during the same period last year.

The recovery has also strengthened the business’s balance sheet, allowing net debt to fall from £24.2 million to £17.4 million. Everyman’s share of the UK market grew from 5.8% to 6.4%, and its membership program expanded by 13.4% to 75,788 members. Additionally, total box office sales in the UK and Ireland topped £600 million for the first time since before the pandemic.

Farah Golant, the new chief executive steering the company as it prepares to be taken private by its largest shareholders, emphasized the firm’s disciplined approach. “We have momentum and strong focus to manage the business with discipline and prudent investment,” Golant said.

While new site openings have been paused this year to allow for strategic refocusing, the company plans to open three new venues next year. Looking ahead, Everyman expects its full-year financial performance to slightly outpace 2025 results, supported by anticipated summer hits such as The Odyssey and Spider-man: Brand New Day, as well as a strong lineup of future releases in the Hunger Games, Avengers, and Dune franchises.
