Google has introduced a significant update to its Gemini 3.8 model, featuring a “Live Avatar” that allows users to engage in real-time conversations with an animated AI persona. The new interface displays dynamic facial expressions and synchronized lip movements as the AI responds, aiming to make interactions feel more natural and engaging.
Currently, this feature is exclusively available to customers using the Gemini Enterprise platform. According to Google, the technology supports a diverse range of 97 languages. The company claims that the avatar can switch between these languages without compromising video quality or causing visual artifacts, such as drift or misalignment.
To demonstrate the capability, Google shared footage of the Live Avatar seamlessly transitioning between English and Japanese. The demonstration highlighted precise mouth animations that accurately matched the spoken audio in both languages, showcasing the system’s ability to maintain fidelity during multilingual exchanges.
