Google Wallet has significantly expanded its functionality over the past year, evolving from a simple digital cardholder into a comprehensive utility app. Alongside a major interface overhaul, Google introduced several key features in 2026 that enhance everyday convenience. Additionally, reports indicate the app may soon arrive on iOS.

Online Order and Package Tracking
Starting in June, Google Wallet integrated the ability to view online orders and monitor shipments directly within the app. To activate this feature, users must first enable package tracking in their Gmail account. Once configured, Wallet displays detailed receipts, tracking numbers, and real-time shipping status for eligible purchases.
TSA PreCheck Touchless ID Integration
In a partnership with the Transportation Security Administration announced in June, Google Wallet became the first digital wallet compatible with the PreCheck Touchless ID program. Travelers at 65 US airports can now present their smartphone instead of physical identification at security checkpoints. The system verifies identity by comparing a live camera feed to the digital ID saved in Wallet, provided the user has also stored their boarding pass in the app.
Allowance Management for Children
Introduced in August 2026, the new allowance feature allows parents to transfer money to a child’s Google Wallet account on a scheduled basis or as needed. The child can then use their phone for contactless payments. Notably, the funds are restricted from online use, offering a secure alternative to physical cash or debit cards that children might lose or misplace.
Digital Driver’s Licenses from 11 States
While digital IDs are not new, 2026 saw significant expansion in eligible jurisdictions. Residents of Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Ohio can now add their official state driver’s license or ID card to Google Wallet. More states, including North Carolina, are expected to join by spring 2027. Although the digital version does not fully replace a physical card, it is accepted for age verification at participating retailers and within select applications.
NFC Transit Card Transfers
A September update simplified the process for adding transit cards to the app. Previously, users were required to manually input card details. The new update leverages NFC technology, allowing users to transfer physical transit cards and their remaining balances directly to Wallet by tapping their phone against the card.
