Four Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Infant Dies in Staffordshire Woods

Staffordshire Police have detained four people on suspicion of murder following the death of an infant in a wooded area. The three-month-old girl was found deceased on Saturday morning after emergency services responded to reports of a child in cardiac arrest.

The incident occurred at approximately 08:45 BST in woodland off Strawberry Lane, near Cheslyn Hay. Authorities confirmed that the suspects include a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from south Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18-year-old man from Walsall.

All four individuals were held at the scene and have since been released on bail while investigations continue. Detective Inspector Josh Lee stated that officers are actively gathering evidence regarding the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and are maintaining an open-minded approach to the inquiry.

DI Lee emphasized that the tragedy is being treated as an isolated incident and urged the public to refrain from spreading unconfirmed or speculative information on social media. The location, situated within the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve, is described as secluded from the main woodland paths. Although it is not an official campsite, the area is known to be used by local anglers and walkers.
