FC Barcelona produced a scintillating display at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Saturday, dismantling Valencia CF by a scoreline of 5-0 in a La Liga clash that saw new signing Jesus make his highly anticipated debut for the club.
The match was dominated from the opening whistle by Xavi’s men, who controlled possession and created countless chances against a Valencia side unable to cope with the intensity. The breakthrough came early in the second half, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack where Adam Ounas found Jesus, who finished coolly to send the home crowd into raptures.
Jesus, who spent years at the youth academy before departing for a brief stint abroad, looked confident on the ball as he linked up with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The Brazilian winger, known for his pace and dribbling, added a second goal shortly after, showcasing why Barcelona were desperate to secure his return.
Valencia’s defense was in disarray for much of the afternoon. Despite their best efforts to stay compact, they were consistently breached. Pedri orchestrated play from midfield, dropping deep to pick out through balls for Vinicius Jr, who finished clinically to make it 3-0 before halftime.
The second half continued in the same vein. Raphinha added a fourth from the penalty spot after being brought down inside the box by Valencia goalkeeper Celso Borges. The final goal arrived deep into stoppage time when Lewandowski nodded home from a cornerset piece.
The result moves Barcelona into contention for the title, while Valencia face an uphill battle to climb out of the bottom half of the table.
