Robert Pattinson Describes ‘The Batman 2’ as Ambitious ‘Left Turn’

Robert Pattinson has offered new details regarding the production of “The Batman: Part II,” characterizing the upcoming sequel as a significantly bolder and divergent entry compared to its predecessor. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor emphasized the scale of the follow-up project.

“It’s so ambitious,” Pattinson stated. He noted that while the 2022 original was already a distinct interpretation of the caped crusader, this next installment marks a “real left turn.” Despite this tonal shift, he confirmed that the film maintains elements of the initial movie’s atmosphere, expressing eagerness to see the final result.

Matt Reeves is set to return to direct the sequel, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 18, 2028. The film serves as the successor to “The Batman,” which introduced audiences to Pattinson’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne. The sequel’s cast includes Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan alongside Pattinson, with Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch also joining the supporting ensemble. Plot specifics remain tightly held by the studio.

Development on the project began quickly after the first film’s success, with Reeves finishing the script in June 2025. The original announcement came just one month after the debut of the first feature. This timeline means there will be a six-year gap between the release of the two films.

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn previously addressed the extended production schedule, defending the delay by pointing to industry norms for major franchise sequels. Gunn highlighted historical precedents for long waits between installments, citing the seven-year gap between “Alien” and “Aliens,” fourteen years between “The Incredibles” films, and six years between “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Vol. 3.”
