Amazon MGM Studios and Colour Yellow have released a teaser for the upcoming fantasy family entertainer “Nayyi Navelli,” starring Yami Gautam Dhar. The film is scheduled for a theatrical debut in India this October.
The trailer begins in a seemingly normal home before escalating into chaos when the brother-in-law accuses the family’s newest member of being a witch. The footage then cycles through eccentric characters and tumultuous situations, highlighting a role that the studio describes as distinct from Gautam Dhar’s previous work.
Balaji Mohan helms the project, with a screenplay by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, and music composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar. Aanand L Rai and Sharma produce the film under the Colour Yellow banner. The ensemble cast features Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee, Sonal Jha, Suneel Sinha, Prateek Pachori, Akshat Singh, Babita Pandey, Ajay Pal, and Neeraj Singh.
“Nayyi Navelli” is set to hit Indian cinemas on October 16, positioning itself just ahead of the Dussehra festival. Colour Yellow, established by Rai, has built its portfolio on original narratives with strong character development, including titles such as “Raanjhanaa,” the “Tanu Weds Manu” franchise, “Atrangi Re,” “Tumbbad,” and “Tu Yaa Main.” For Gautam Dhar, this follows recent appearances in “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” and leading roles in “Haq” and “Article 370.” Amazon MGM Studios continues to expand its global footprint, producing content for Prime Video in over 240 territories alongside theatrical releases and programming for MGM+.
Yami playing against type is intriguing, but will the ensemble cast feel connected? Hope it’s more than just quirk for quirk’s sake.
