Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reviewing apps and entertainment for youth safety, has issued a stern warning regarding OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Teens. Introduced in August, the platform includes specific guardrails designed to assist students in their learning, but the nonprofit argues these measures are insufficient.
According to a press release, the assessment found that the protections intended for teenage users “fall short of what the company promised.” The review highlighted several critical failures, noting that the system often fails to alert parents when it should, does not provide appropriate assistance during crisis situations, and continues to facilitate homework completion for children.
The nonprofit’s evaluation concludes that the current implementation of ChatGPT for Teens poses an “unacceptable risk” to its young user base.
