Apple to Restrict Mac Disk Access Amid AI Agent Security Concerns

Apple is implementing new restrictions on “full disk access” for macOS in response to growing security risks associated with AI agents. According to an update released on Friday, the company aims to ensure that granting applications this high level of permission requires very explicit action from the user.

This decision follows a report by TechCrunch and emerges just weeks after Jason Aten, a writer at Inc, discovered that Meta’s Muse AI appeared to have knowledge of his private messages. This occurred despite Aten not having granted the chatbot explicit permission to access his iPhone or Mac.

In response to the incident, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone contested the findings, stating that access to Messages is “entirely opt-in.” Apple’s upcoming changes seek to add another layer of verification to prevent similar unauthorized data exposure on Mac systems.
