Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has strongly condemned a newly negotiated agreement between the United States and Russia regarding diesel fuel, describing the arrangement as a direct benefit to Vladimir Putin.
Speaking on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Zelensky characterized the deal as a “birthday gift” that would provide Putin with additional financial resources to sustain the ongoing conflict, stating it enables Moscow to “kill us, kill our children.”
The Ukrainian leader’s comments came in response to questions from ABC News chief congressional correspondent Jonathan Karl, who pressed Zelensky on his earlier remarks characterizing the deal as a favor to the Russian leadership. Zelensky elaborated that the agreement effectively puts money into Putin’s hands, thereby prolonging Russia’s capacity to wage war against Ukraine.
The controversy surrounding the diesel deal has drawn significant attention, with Zelensky scheduled for an interview later in the week as backlash to the Trump administration’s negotiation continues to grow.
