During its annual Made by YouTube product event held on Wednesday, the platform unveiled a suite of new features centered around generative AI, creator tools, and personalized user experiences. Among the most significant announcements is the introduction of custom video feeds, allowing users to curate content based on specific interests or moods.
Users will be able to generate these tailored feeds using conversational AI prompts. Whether a viewer wants a feed dedicated to workout routines, long-form documentaries, or emerging creators in a niche category, the system can assemble it. The feature is set to launch soon for users in the United States across web, mobile, and television platforms.
In a move aimed at creators producing serialized short-form content, YouTube has expanded its existing “Shows” feature to support Shorts. This update allows creators to arrange videos episodically with custom thumbnails and sequential playback, making it easier for audiences to follow microdramas and other ongoing series.
Community interaction is also getting a visual upgrade. Starting this fall on the global mobile app, users will be able to post GIFs in comments via a new searchable GIF library. For television users, voice-activated commenting through a text-to-speech tool is now available on compatible devices.
The platform further expanded the capabilities of its AI shopping assistant, Ask YouTube. The chatbot will now provide video recommendations and comparison tables for product reviews. Additionally, it can identify items featured in a video even if they are not verbally mentioned, helping viewers find products like clothing worn by creators. The conversation can also seamlessly transition from the search screen to the video player.
YouTube Music received updates as well. Subscribers to YouTube Music and Premium will gain access to “Podcast Lineup,” a hands-free generative AI feature that offers weekly previews of recommended shows. The service also enhanced its “Ask Music” tool, enabling users to learn detailed information about artists and adjust their song queues.
Looking ahead, YouTube secured exclusive streaming rights for Coachella through 2030. Furthermore, the company plans to pilot a live auto-dubbing tool in early 2027, initially supporting English and Spanish, to provide real-time audio translation for creators’ content.
The auto-dubbing pilot is huge for global reach. Though I hope it doesn’t ruin the original audio experience for non-English speakers.
