During its ‘Made On YouTube’ event held on Wednesday, YouTube announced a suite of new creator tools, headlined by a conversational editing feature that leverages natural language processing. The tool is designed to assist both long-form and short-form content creators in refining their footage through a chat-based interface.
Addressing the time-intensive nature of post-production, YouTuber Happy Kelli highlighted the potential impact of the innovation. “A one-hour shoot can be 10 hours or more in the edit,” Kelli noted. “So, what if we could speed that process along without sacrificing any of our creative control?”
In a demonstration of the workflow, Kelli uploaded video files of herself dancing in various outfits and instructed the AI to isolate the best performance for each look. She then commanded the system to apply appropriate music and transitions. The platform also supports requests for text overlays and the removal of speech pauses.
Kelli emphasized that the system is designed to be collaborative rather than autonomous. “If at any point I want even more control, I can jump back into the editing timeline and manually adjust things myself,” she said. She described the experience as a “literal conversation with an infinitely patient helper” that acts as a partner in the editing process.
The introduction of such AI-driven automation has drawn mixed reactions within the creator community. While some anticipate significant time savings, others remain cautious about ceding artistic authority to algorithms, arguing that unique editing styles are a defining element of individual channels.
Additionally, YouTube revealed other platform updates, including dynamic thumbnails, live dubbing capabilities, and A/B testing for videos. The conversational editing feature is slated for release in early 2027, supporting both YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create application.
