Yoto has officially announced two new audio devices designed for children: the fourth-generation Yoto Player and an updated Yoto Mini. Both units introduce a prominent green dial that allows kids to access their top 20 favorite pieces of content, such as podcasts, stories, and songs, directly from the hardware without needing to borrow a parent’s smartphone.
The new Yoto Player retains its speaker and pixel display design but includes significant upgrades. The device now features redesigned hardware intended to be easier for small hands to manipulate, along with increased storage capacity of up to 64GB for faster downloads. Additionally, the nightlight panel has been improved, and the software has been updated to streamline routine creation. Parents can set up routines once, after which the device automatically adjusts graphics to reflect the time of day. Notably, the new green dial functionality works without requiring Yoto Cards, the NFC-based media keys previously used for content access.
Despite these enhancements, the price for the Yoto Player has risen to $150, up from the previous generation’s $110. The device is available for pre-order now, with shipping scheduled to begin on October 15.
The refreshed Yoto Mini, positioned as the more affordable and compact option, is being marketed toward active play. It boasts a rugged, water-resistant, and dust-proof build designed to withstand playground use and accidental drops. Like its larger sibling, it features the green dial for card-free access and offers storage for approximately 1,000 hours of audio. It also supports both wired and Bluetooth headphones. The Mini’s price has increased to $110 from its former $80 price point. Pre-orders are currently open, with deliveries expected by September 30.
Yoto is also introducing a range of accessories, including scratch-proof cases for both the Player and Mini in four color options. A wireless charging dock and a protective case for Yoto Cards are also in development, though pricing and availability details have not yet been released.
I wish they still supported Yoto Cards. Going full green dial seems like it might confuse some of us who prefer the physical cards.
Rugged and water-resistant? Finally, a Mini built for actual playground chaos. My current one didn’t survive one rainy Tuesday.
That price jump for the Player is tough. $150 for kids’ tech feels excessive unless the routine automation actually works.
