Waymo has announced plans to introduce its driverless ride-hailing service to Singapore in 2028, marking another step in the Alphabet-owned company’s international expansion strategy.
According to the company, its vehicles will begin arriving in the city-state within the coming months. These initial deployments are intended to support mapping efforts and autonomous testing conducted in 2027, with human safety drivers remaining behind the wheel during this preparatory phase. Waymo stated that it is working toward offering fully autonomous rides to the public by 2028.
Before the service can go live, Waymo must receive clearance from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA). The regulatory body requires all autonomous vehicles to pass a comprehensive safety assessment.
