War with Iran Points Toward Escalation Rather Than Diplomatic Deal

War with Iran Points Toward Escalation Rather Than Diplomatic Deal

According to former Iranian diplomat Hossein Mousavian, Iranian officials remain skeptical of US claims that the ongoing conflict over Iran is driven by concerns regarding nuclear weapons rather than access to oil.

In a discussion with host Steve Clemons, Mousavian and former US diplomat Alan Eyre suggested that a diplomatic resolution or even a lasting stalemate is not imminent. Both diplomats have participated in past negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program.

Eyre noted that the administration led by US President Donald Trump tends to prioritize swift outcomes over traditional diplomacy. He emphasized that regional nations must assume greater responsibility for leading efforts, operating with American support rather than direct US leadership.

5 responses to “War with Iran Points Toward Escalation Rather Than Diplomatic Deal”

  1. I remember the last round of talks. Things haven’t changed much. This escalation path seems all too predictable.

  2. Trump’s style makes stalemate unlikely, but does anyone really believe a clean diplomatic deal is possible right now?

  3. Has anyone considered that regional powers might actually be ready to step up now? Or is that just wishful thinking?

  4. It feels like we are hurtling toward conflict again. When will leaders stop prioritizing quick wins over real diplomacy?

  5. Mousavian’s skepticism about US motives is understandable. Oil has always been the hidden driver here, not just nuclear concerns.
