US Sanctions Hamas Financing Network Linking France and Cryptocurrency

On Friday, the Trump administration announced new sanctions against three individuals linked to the Islamist militant group Hamas and two charities operating out of France. The action was accompanied by the arrest of six suspects across the United States and France, which officials described as the result of “extraordinary counter-terrorism work” aimed at dismantling a “sophisticated, multi-year financing architecture.”

According to investigators from the Justice and Treasury departments, the network funneled more than $2 million to Hamas utilizing deceptive charitable fronts and cryptocurrency channels. The arrests and sanctions mark a significant escalation in the government’s efforts to expose and disrupt covert funding streams supporting the group.

  1. Wow, I had no idea French charities were this deep in the network. This feels like a major escalation. Will these sentences be stiff?

  2. Is it really crypto’s fault, or just easier money laundering? Charities were used decades ago too. Seems like standard investigative work.

  3. These six arrests show real cross-border cooperation. Hard to believe $2 million moved through charities and crypto this quietly.
