The head of the Royal Air Force has issued a stark warning regarding an escalating military competition in outer space, describing the risk as unprecedented. The commander cautioned that modern conflict in the orbital domain could severely damage the satellite infrastructure upon which civilian and military operations rely for essential services such as internet connectivity, banking transactions, global positioning, and telecommunications.
According to a defense source speaking to BBC defense correspondent Jonathon Beale, the United Kingdom has already employed ground-based electronic warfare capabilities to disrupt the satellite links of an adversarial nation. This disclosure confirms that Britain is actively utilizing offensive countermeasures to neutralize threats to its space-dependent systems.
