In a significant foreign policy address delivered at the Atlantic Council in New York on Wednesday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese asserted that the international framework established after the Second World War has become obsolete.
According to reports from Australian Associated Press, Albanese argued that many of the institutions deemed essential in the post-1945 era are insufficient to confront the complexities of the present day.
The Prime Minister reflected on the period following the Cold War, noting that prevailing assumptions once held that openness equated to security, economic efficiency superseded resilience, and adherence to international rules was guaranteed. These beliefs were underpinned by the expectation that major democratic powers would face little challenge to their influence.
