Trump Targets Texas and Michigan as Critical Midterm Battlegrounds

Speaking to supporters in Oklahoma on Thursday, President Donald Trump identified Texas and Michigan as key states where Republicans face significant challenges heading into the 2026 midterm elections. The remarks came shortly after the president participated in an event in Texas, where he contrasted the reliability of his home state with the volatility of other regions.

While expressing confidence that Oklahoma would remain Republican, Trump emphasized the necessity of high voter turnout elsewhere. “I feel a little foolish… I’m saying, ‘go out and vote, go out and vote,'” Trump told the crowd. “You’re gonna, they’re going to win in the last half, but still go out and vote. But we’re not worried about them. We’re worried about Michigan. We’re worried about Texas. We’re worried about a few states.”

The president further outlined that the party’s focus should be on approximately 35 to 40 specific races deemed critical to their success. He urged supporters to spread awareness about these contests, noting that while there are hundreds of races overall, the outcome hinges on a much smaller subset. “It’s all about 40,” he said.

Trump also reiterated his strategy for mobilizing the base, asking voters to mentally treat him as a candidate on the ballot. “So you have to pretend I’m on the ticket and turn out for a midterm victory that’s really too big to rig,” he stated.

In an effort to energize Republican voters, the president attacked the Democratic Party on issues of inflation and immigration. He repeated unsubstantiated claims regarding the volume and backgrounds of migrants entering the U.S. during the Biden administration, specifically referencing allegations that foreign governments deported individuals from prisons and mental institutions. These assertions have been disputed and lack evidence.

Despite defending his administration’s performance, Trump criticized fellow Republicans for what he characterized as ineffective public relations efforts.
