Trump and Macron Confirm European Diesel Stockpile Release Following US Pressure

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that European countries have agreed to release significant portions of their diesel reserves immediately. The decision follows intense diplomatic pressure from Washington aimed at curbing rising fuel costs that are impacting American consumers.

Speaking on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the agreement as a release of “a massive amount of their heavily stocked Diesel Oil,” emphasizing that the process would begin without delay. The announcement comes amid growing domestic backlash against the president as oil and goods prices climb, a trend exacerbated by the ongoing conflict with Iran and his trade policies.

According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price for a gallon of diesel in the United States has reached $6.37 (5.65 euros). Trump has defended the elevated prices as a necessary consequence of efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, predicting that costs would decrease once the war concludes.

Global supply constraints have further driven prices upward. Russia has imposed export bans after Ukrainian attacks damaged its refineries, reducing diesel availability worldwide.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who also serves as the G7 chair, confirmed the coordinated response. He stated that G7 nations would release up to 100 million barrels of diesel over the next four months. Additionally, Macron committed to avoiding any trade-limiting measures regarding petroleum and energy products among partner nations.

In a joint statement, G7 leaders noted that addressing citizen concerns about energy prices remains a top priority. They added that they would closely monitor market developments and adjust measures as necessary.

The French Embassy in the US reported that Macron and Trump held discussions on the issue overnight. Earlier reports indicated that the United States had demanded France, Germany, and other European allies release 100 million diesel barrels within a 20-day window.

5 responses to “Trump and Macron Confirm European Diesel Stockpile Release Following US Pressure”

  1. Trump blames Iran and trade wars, then asks Europe to subsidize his poll numbers. Classic deflection tactics to distract from domestic inflation.

  2. Wait, are Europeans actually running low on diesel? Or is this purely about keeping American voters happy with lower pump prices?

  3. Strategic petroleum reserves exist for emergencies, not political favors. This sets a dangerous precedent for how allies treat each other’s resources.

  4. Ten million barrels over four months? That’s a drop in the bucket. Markets won’t budge an inch from this trivial amount.

  5. Seems odd to dip into strategic reserves for diesel rather than gasoline. Why is the US demanding Europe fix its fuel prices?
