Taylor Swift has secured two major Spotify milestones for 2026, topping the charts for the most streams achieved by a female artist in a single day. The records were set following the midnight drop of “The Life of a Showgirl: Encore,” a project that includes four new tracks.
Leading the charge is the album’s lead single, “Patient Zero,” which captured the record for the most-streamed song by a female artist in one day this year. Swift herself surpassed previous daily streaming benchmarks, marking a significant moment in her ongoing dominance of the platform.
The release followed a carefully orchestrated rollout that began during the Emmy Awards broadcast. While appearing in a “Law & Order: SVU” sketch as a detective, Swift hinted at upcoming content with the line, “I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight.” She then broke the fourth wall, directing her gaze at the camera and delivering the cryptic phrase, “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or south.” Fans quickly decoded the message, realizing the third letter of each word spelled out “encore.=”
Swift further teased the project this past Tuesday by announcing the arrival of “Patient Zero” and offering three limited-edition CD versions on her website. A day later, she confirmed the full “Encore” release for Friday, revealing the tracklist to include “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon,” alongside the hit single.
Explaining the decision to expand her 2025 album, Swift took to social media to credit her fans. “About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ the biggest first week for an album in history,” she wrote. She added that a trip to Sweden with collaborators Max Martin and Shellback turned into a songwriting session, resulting in new material born from gratitude for the album’s reception.
Swift is also preparing to premiere the music video for “Patient Zero” at the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday, where she will receive the inaugural Artist-Director Award. She previously offered a sneak peek of the clip on “CBS Mornings” and her social channels. The film features cinematography from Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki and stars Swift alongside Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
