Swansea captain credits humble mindset for Championship charge

Swansea City captain Ben Cabango believes the club’s grounded mentality is a key factor in their impressive start to the Championship campaign. The defender emphasized that the squad maintains a sense of humility and unity as they compete near the top of the table.

Swansea recently overturned a 1-0 deficit to defeat Norwich City, marking the third time this season they have responded after falling behind early. Cabango noted that there is rarely panic within the dressing room when they trail, attributing the resilience to a strong collective character.

Under manager Vitor Matos, the team has adopted an ethos of treating every match with high importance while avoiding complacency. Cabango highlighted that the coach consistently reminds players to approach each game as if it were a final, fostering confidence and aggression on the pitch.

The Swans have lost only once in the league so far, with their sole defeat coming away at Southampton. At home, they have secured three wins and two draws, building a solid platform for their promotion hopes.

Cabango also addressed the physical demands of balancing club duty with international football for Wales. After returning from the Nations League, where Wales faced Portugal, Denmark, and Norway, he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to shake off any rust. He praised the intensity of the international break and the positive response shown against Norwich.

Looking ahead, Swansea face a challenging run, starting with an away trip to Millwall followed by a home fixture against third-placed West Ham United. Cabango acknowledged that the match at Millwall will be physically demanding, with a focus on set pieces and long balls, but insisted the team remains prepared and optimistic.
