Spotify announced on Tuesday that controlling the streaming service via Siri has been significantly streamlined for iPhone users running iOS 27. The new update removes the necessity of appending “on Spotify” to voice commands, allowing for a more seamless hands-free experience.
Users can now simply state what they wish to listen to, whether it is a specific song, album, podcast, audiobook, or a general request such as “play workout music.” The integration also supports Spotify’s proprietary features, including the ability to activate “My DJ.” Additional capabilities include requesting personalized recommendations, resuming podcasts, searching personal libraries, and generating AI-powered Prompted Playlists.
According to Spotify, the removal of the mandatory verbal cue is designed to make voice control feel more natural. By eliminating the need to phrase requests in a specific way to trigger the correct application, listeners can focus entirely on their media preferences rather than command syntax.
The feature operates by allowing Siri to recognize and remember a user’s preferred music application. If a user consistently chooses Spotify, the system will automatically direct audio requests to that service. This functionality is currently available globally for iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, provided Apple Intelligence is enabled in the device settings and the user is located outside the European Union.
