Following its “Welcome Home” event on Tuesday, Apple provided an in-depth look at its newly announced Home Collection. The lineup features six new devices, co-developed by Apple alongside partners LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, including a video doorbell, security cameras, a smart lock, and thermostats.
The LG smart lock, priced at $349, introduces support for Apple Home Key. This feature enables hands-free unlocking via ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. Additionally, users can gain entry using a PIN code or a traditional physical key inserted through the keyhole located beneath the keypad.
Also debuting is a new video doorbell from LG available for $249. The device is equipped with two cameras capable of recording in resolutions up to 2.5K.
Does this actually work with existing Apple Home setups or is it a walled garden again?
Hands-free UWB entry is genuinely convenient. Finally, I don’t need to dig for my keys every time.
Wait, $349 for a smart lock? That’s steep. I’m sticking with my cheap Yale lock for now.
LG and Schneider doing the heavy lifting here. Apple just slaps its branding on solid hardware now.
