Sony Reissues XM4 Headphones as XM4C Amid Noise-Canceling Legacy

Six years after Sony and Bose were locked in a fierce competition to dominate the noise-canceling headphone market, the Japanese tech giant is revisiting one of its most successful products. Released in the fall of 2020, the WH-1000XM4 headphones received widespread praise for their audio quality, effective active noise cancellation, and portable form factor, eventually selling out globally.

Today, Sony has reintroduced the model under the name WH-1000XM4C. The new iteration features the same visual design as the original, including the signature hinge and folding mechanism, though it now comes with an additional lavender color option. This compact aesthetic contrasts with the design direction Sony adopted when it launched the WH-1000XM5 in 2022, which moved away from the foldable structure.

The re-release allows consumers to access a proven design that held top spots on best-headphone lists for years, now updated with minor improvements while maintaining the classic form factor that many users preferred.
