Slack Introduces ‘Surfaces’ for AI-Generated Interactive Content in Chats

Slack is rolling out a new capability called Slackforce Surfaces, which enables users to construct interactive reports, polls, dashboards, presentations, and microsites without leaving the messaging platform. The feature leverages artificial intelligence to streamline content creation directly inside chat threads.

According to Slack, users can simply describe their requirements to Slackbot, which will then pull relevant data from ongoing conversations and integrated applications such as Google Drive or Salesforce to build the requested tool. Once generated, these “Surfaces” can be shared with teammates, pinned to specific channels, and interacted with by others who can view the content and leave comments.

In a demonstration provided by the company, a user requested an arcade-themed visualization of AI token usage, illustrating the platform’s flexibility in handling diverse data presentation styles.

  1. I need to see what these polls actually look like in practice. The arcade demo looks fun but is it professional enough?

  2. Does this pull sensitive data by default? I hope there are strict permission controls before we trust AI with everything.
