Sebastian Stan, who returns to the screen as Bucky Barnes in the upcoming Marvel entry “Avengers: Doomsday,” recently disclosed that he has not yet viewed the finished film. Despite remaining unaware of the final product, the actor anticipates the movie will deliver a significant emotional blow to audiences.
Speaking with Decider, Stan confirmed his lack of exposure to the cut currently in post-production. “I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” he stated. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”
While fans have interpreted his remarks as an indication that several cherished characters may meet their demise in the sequel, Stan emphasized the sentimental value of the production itself. He described the experience of reuniting with his castmates as deeply nostalgic, noting the long history the group shares. “It’s been a family, and it never stops being that way,” he said.
Stan is not the sole cast member to express uncertainty regarding the film’s narrative. Alan Cumming, who reprises his role as the mutant Nightcrawler, recently told SiriusXM that he does not fully grasp the plot. Cumming added that the majority of his scenes were filmed in front of a blue screen.
This widespread confusion among the cast appears linked to the fact that co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo shot the movie without a finalized script. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Joe Russo defended the approach, describing the script as a “living organism.” He explained that his directing style relies heavily on improvisation and rehearsal, allowing actors to bring their own interpretations to roles even days before filming begins.
Stan first portrayed the character of Bucky Barnes in “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011, launching a lengthy tenure within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that continued through “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
I just want to know if he survives. My popcorn awaits the tears.
Call it a living organism, I call it chaos. At least Stan cares about the cast bond.
Alan Cumming filming against blue screen confirms my fears about the CGI budget.
They never had a script? That sounds like a recipe for disaster, not art.
Heartbreaking sounds about right for Bucky. Here we go again.
