A Rohingya rights activist has strongly criticized Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to repatriate refugees to Myanmar, describing the policy as fundamentally unjust. Nur Sadek stated that it is “very unfair to send us back to the place we fled from,” highlighting the dangers faced by those forced to return.
The concerns come as approximately 1,500 Rohingya refugees have already arrived in Myanmar under the Malaysian government’s initiative, which aims to return a total of 5,000 individuals. However, the United Nations and various human rights organizations have warned that conditions in Myanmar remain unsafe for repatriation.
I understand border control concerns, but what about international law? Forced repatriation to conflict zones is a serious violation.
Does anyone actually believe the situation in Myanmar has improved? The activists and UN reports say otherwise. Very concerning.
Malaysia needs to stop playing politics with human lives. These are not illegal immigrants; they are refugees seeking safety.
This is absolutely heartbreaking. Sending people back to danger when the UN explicitly warns against it is cruel and unethical.
