The TS Eliot prize, recognized as the most prestigious award in the UK and Ireland for a single volume of poetry, has unveiled its shortlist of ten poets competing for the £25,000 prize. Leading the list are former poet laureate Andrew Motion and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Jorie Graham.
Motion has been selected for his collection Gravity Archives, while Graham appears on the list for her work Killing Spree. Graham is a familiar face to the awards, having been shortlisted previously in 2012.
Organizers noted that the featured collections serve to “remind us why it’s to poetry we turn to reorient ourselves,” highlighting the continued relevance and importance of the art form.
Jorie Graham again? She’s been shortlisted so often she practically owns the place. A fresh face would be nice.
Great to see Motion back in the mix. I hope Gravity Archives gets the recognition it deserves this time around.
