During its annual Roblox Developer Conference (RDC), the gaming platform announced a series of updates aimed at simplifying game creation and broadening the reach of developer content. Key highlights include enhanced AI-driven building tools, the ability to publish games across multiple platforms such as the web, mobile, and consoles, and new financial products designed for creators.
Roblox is significantly expanding its generative AI feature, known as “Build,” which allows users to create games using natural language prompts. Initially launched in July and restricted to New Zealand, the tool is now available to creators in Serbia and Singapore. Additionally, Build is gaining desktop support, a new asset library, and iterative control features. A prompt-based scene generation capability is also slated for release later this year, with plans to integrate it into Roblox Studio.
In a major shift toward cross-platform accessibility, Roblox stated that developers will soon be able to export their creations as standalone applications on mobile devices, PCs, and consoles, with Roblox serving as the underlying engine. By the end of the year, players will also be able to join experiences directly through a web browser link. These moves signal a strategic pivot from merely attracting users to the Roblox ecosystem toward maximizing the distribution and usability of developer-built content.
Further enhancing the user experience, Roblox introduced improvements to non-player characters (NPCs). Later this year, NPCs will be capable of playingtest games. Creators can also add offline mode functionality, allowing gameplay to continue in areas with poor connectivity. New social features include a portable Friends chat tab with voice typing support, and an improved discovery algorithm that will recommend shorter games to younger users and longer sessions for older demographics.
The platform also debuted new capabilities for 2D game development, featuring an orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet import for animations. Within the Moments vertical feed, users will soon be able to tap on any avatar in a video clip to purchase items directly.
On the financial front, Roblox highlighted that game makers have earned over $5 billion since 2013, with $1.7 billion generated in the last 12 months alone. To support creators, the company is launching a Roblox Wallet, enabling payouts in real money by the end of each business day. Partnering with Airwallex, the wallet service is initially available to U.S. users aged 18 and older, with global expansion planned. Additionally, a Roblox Card is expected to launch next year, allowing users to spend their earnings at accepting merchants.
Roblox CEO David Baszucki noted the platform’s massive engagement, reporting that players spent over 29 billion cumulative hours in the last quarter across 180 countries.
