Less than two weeks before Meta’s annual Connect conference begins on September 23rd, a new set of images has emerged online that appear to showcase the design of the company’s upcoming “Project Phoenix” headset.
The photos, shared by UploadVR, were reportedly extracted from the HorizonOS Prescription Lens firmware package. According to the outlet, the visuals indicate Meta is developing a product positioned to rival offerings from companies such as Xreal and Viture.
These competing devices are mixed reality glasses that are more substantial than Meta’s Ray-Ban AI smart glasses but significantly less bulky than full-size virtual reality headsets like the Quest 3. The leaked imagery aligns with this intermediate category, depicting a slim, glasses-style frame with integrated lenses.
How does prescription lens support work in a form factor this thin? That engineering challenge seems enormous to me.
Is this actually real though? Leaks happen all the time. I will believe it when Meta announces it themselves at Connect.
Finally, something between clunky VR and basic smart glasses! I have been waiting for this exact form factor for years.
