Premium Fitness Group Common Bond Closes Studios Amid Pay Disputes

The fitness collective behind popular premium brands Barrecore, Boom Cycle, and Kobox has unexpectedly shut down all of its studio locations. The parent company, Common Bond, notified customers via email that its facilities across London would remain closed “until further notice,” while its website has since been taken offline.

Common Bond positions itself as a wellness group, offering comprehensive annual memberships priced at £2,400 for unlimited access to classes. In addition to its flagship brands, the company also manages Reformcore and Triyoga. It had previously stated it operated ten sites as of August the prior year, though the exact number of affected instructors and members is currently unknown.

Employees allege they were left without wages prior to the closure announcement. Several instructors reported to the BBC that they were informed on August 14 that their payments would be delayed. Despite receiving no assurance of when funds would arrive, some continued teaching classes in good faith, only to discover the imminent shutdown through the Wednesday email notification.

“I have heard absolutely nothing since,” one instructor stated regarding her outstanding pay. Common Bond has not yet responded to requests for comment from the BBC.

Companies House records indicate that Common Bond was incorporated in June of last year and has not yet published audited accounts. Corporate filings also reveal recent leadership changes, with director Ben Allen departing the role last month. The only remaining listed director is Gaspar Lipszyc, a Belgian national residing in Spain.

Barrecore, one of the shuttered brands, specializes in barre—a low-impact workout blending elements of pilates, ballet, and yoga. The discipline has seen a significant surge in popularity in recent years, bolstered by endorsements from high-profile figures such as Pippa Middleton.

  1. I paid for my membership here. Does anyone know if Common Bond has insurance or a guarantee fund for these situations?

  2. Wait, they’re only a year old? That feels incredibly risky for anyone paying over two grand annually. A bit of a red flag.

  3. Disgusting that instructors were left unpaid. How can a premium brand treat its staff so cruelly? The members deserve answers too.
