Porsha Williams Reveals Emergency Hysterectomy After Fibroid Discovery

Reality television personality Porsha Williams has shared details of a recent health crisis, revealing that she underwent an emergency partial hysterectomy earlier this year. Speaking with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings,” Williams disclosed that surgeons discovered 21 uterine fibroids, one of which was comparable in size to a cantaloupe.

“It all happened so fast. It really didn’t hit me until I woke up in the hospital bed,” Williams said during the exclusive interview. The star, who recently appeared in season four of “The Traitors” and is currently participating in “Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip,” noted that her symptoms had been mistaken for perimenopause due to her age.

Williams, now 45, stated that she had been managing fibroids since her late 20s and previously underwent uterine fibroid embolization, a procedure intended to shrink the growths without removing the uterus. She believed the issue had been resolved until recent symptoms, including long menstrual cycles, migraines, and fatigue, prompted a revisit of the diagnosis.

The condition initially impacted her fertility when a fibroid outgrew her baby during pregnancy, leading to a miscarriage. She later gave birth to her daughter, Pilar, in 2019. At the time, Williams felt she had completed her family, citing her divorce and strong support system as reasons she was finished having children.

However, while accompanying a friend to a fertility appointment to discuss egg freezing, Williams requested an exam. During the procedure, she observed circular lines on the ultrasound screen and realized the fibroids had returned. A fertility specialist, reportedly shocked by the number of fibroids detected during a vaginal exam, immediately referred her for an MRI.

Two weeks after the diagnosis, in May 2026, Williams underwent surgery. She is now advocating for other women to seek medical attention rather than self-diagnosing.

“We have to stop diagnosing ourselves… we need to learn to advocate for ourselves,” Williams said. “If I saw somebody like me sitting here with you talking about fibroids, it would have clicked to ask for it. I had to ask my doctor to check for fibroids after something was wrong.”
