Poland Arrests Suspect in Plot to Kill Prime Minister Tusk and Defense Minister

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that police have arrested a man suspected of orchestrating an assassination plot against him and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Tusk publicly commended law enforcement for their “swift and decisive action” in neutralizing the threat.

The interior ministry revealed earlier that officers had received credible intelligence regarding potential attacks on both high-ranking officials. In response, security services convened an emergency meeting on Sunday, with officials emphasizing that the danger was being treated as “deadly serious.”

Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesman for the Special Services Coordinator, identified the detained suspect as a Polish national from the Lower Silesia region. He cautioned that there is a “strong likelihood” the threats could have been executed.

Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka explained that the conspiracy was uncovered after the State Protection Service, the agency responsible for ministerial security, forwarded an email containing details of the planned attack to the police.

Tusk, who has served as prime minister since 2023 following a previous tenure from 2007 to 2014, also previously held the role of European Council president from 2014 to 2019.

  1. Tusk’s re-election must have ruffled feathers. Sad that political dissent has turned into violent threats.

  2. How did an email escape detection until now? This suggests serious gaps in their intelligence monitoring systems.
